A peacock loses his feathers…
the week of the beauty contest
A proud peacock learns that true beauty is an ‘‘inside job’!
Flamboyant and self-centred, Pomp thinks he’s a little more special than his barn mates because he has dazzling feathers. Pomp is sure he is destined to win ‘Best-in-Show’ at the Fall Fair.
However, when Pomp experiences his first molt and loses all his feathers, his confidence crumbles and he hides away in embarrassment. One night, he meets a cold, lonely mole who doesn’t care how Pomp looks—only that he is there with him.
Pomp devises a plan! He stitches together his fallen feathers into a wig and he and his friend go to the Fair. Pomp’s barn mates are there too. As fate would have it, a gust of wind blows the wig away and with it, Pomp’s only friend. Now Pomp must choose: save his dignity or save his new friend.
This story offers readers a clear message about identity, humility and community. Pomp discovers that being ‘best’ isn’t about looking perfect. It’s about showing heart, courage and kindness when it matters most.
Pomp S. Peacock : Best-in-Show, weaves vibrant illustrations with an empowering, feel-good story kids will want to read and reread.
