Home of the Unlikely Heroes Series

Each tale celebrates ordinary, imperfect characters, Unlikely Heroes, who stumble, doubt and discover that their true power lies in being themselves.

Through humour, heart and adventure, these stories remind readers-young and old-that even the smallest voices can make a big difference when they dare to be exactly who they are.

Happy Gets the Job

Blueberry Puppy Cat

Meet HAPPY…

I created Happy Gets the Job because I’ve met so many children who are bright, kind, full of promise—but who don’t always fit into the “expected” ways of learning or being. I wanted to tell a story about a dog who, like many kids, tries hard to do what is expected of him, to be what others want. Children will relate to Happy’s silly and fun-loving nature and to his struggles to understand expectations.

This story celebrates the notion that even if we don’t fit the ‘conventional mold’, our unique traits can be exactly what someone else needs. Happy Gets the Job is an emotional journey towards self-acceptance as Happy fulfills his destiny and becomes a Service Dog, like his Dad.
